The research resulted in a display of African-Americans periodicals from the Reconstruction Era to the continuing Civil Rights Movement.\u003C/p>\n\n\n\n\u003Ch2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Inspiration\u003C/h2>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>African-American periodicals were developed out of a need to bring representation and visibility to Black Americans. The Crisis, Black World Digest, Jet, Ebony and other African-American magazines highlighted Black Americans in multiple dimensions. \u003C/p>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Today, as more news moves from print to the web, African-American magazines are moving out of print. I collected African Americans periodicals from Reconstruction Era to the contemporary Civil Rights Movement. For my exhibition, I aimed to create a small library, resembling a newsstand, of African American periodicals for users to browse. My project is called True Black, a visual retrospective on African-American press and periodicals. Through the interviews, they weaved their personal narratives into to the overall collection of Black history.
